Death of student boxer: two suspects released

Maharagama magistrate Sumith Perera released the two suspects remanded in connection with the death of a student-boxer. He had died due to an internal haemorrhage according to medical evidence.

The boy's mother earlier told court that she suspects foul play and requested to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the death.

Senior Counsel Upali Senaratne who appeared for the suspects submitted to court that there was no evidence to prove that this was a murder according to medical evidence. After submissions by Senaratne and the Police, the magistrate ordered the two suspects to furnish cash bail in Rs.10,000 each and a bond of Rs 100,000 each.

The student's mother and another student of the boxing team of the same school gave evidence at the magisterial inquiry earlier.

Senior Attorney Senaratne with Sumith Parakkrama and Dashinth Thabrew appeared for the two suspects.

Attorney Sudath Wickremaratne appeared for the aggrieved party. The case will be called on March 27.
