Credible, non profit certification body set up by Chambers :

To assist exporters and SMEs in Sri Lanka



Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayaka awards ISO 22000 Certificate to Uni Lion Food Product (Pvt) Ltd, Managing Director, P.K Karunainathan., Indexpo Certification Ltd Chairman Nimal Perera and Director Shantha Kuruppumullage look on.

Indexpo Certification Ltd has been established by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries and the National Chamber of Exporters with the assistance provided by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under its Integrated Industrial Development Support Programme. This programme has been funded by the Royal Norwegian Government through NORAD to conduct conformity assessments and grant certification to Sri Lankan industries in compliance with national and international standards demanded by the consumers.

The aim was not only to facilitate the export market but also to safeguard the local consumers using the products and services.

In this regard initially the company introduced a food safety inspection and grading system to enhance the safety of food produced by hotels and catering services which is called the "Crowns for food hygiene" programme.

The programme has been developed in par with similar programmes in operation in developed countries and first implementation was in the Colombo Municipal Council area with the support of the Health Department of CMC. This will be introduced to other municipal council areas around Colombo and to tourist hotels and restaurants in the country with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

The company (www.indexpocertification.lk) also conducts management system certifications such as GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000- FSMS, ISO 9001-QMS, ISO 14001- EMS and OHSAS-18001. Exporters and SMEs will be assisted by providing credible and affordable certification services which comply with international standards.

Today the crowns grading to hotels and restaurants who have conformed to the criteria stipulated and their capabilities to ensure safety of food to the consumer and also the companies who have conformed to the requirements of the relevant management system standards were awarded their certifications by the Deputy Health Minister Lalith Dissanayaka and Tourism Development Authority Acting Director General Vipula Wanigasekara.
