The agreements were signed by Japanese ambassador Nobuhito Hobo, PWJ
Head of Mission Aya Sonoda and JEN's Colombo Office Head Etsuko Inomata
at the ambassador's residence yesterday.
According to embassy sources, the first project will support to
renovate eight minor tanks and provide agricultural promotion equipment
and assistance for dairy farmers.
The project will be implemented by PWJ and over 450 families will
receive its benefits. The first phase of this project succeeded in
strengthening the capacity of individual farmers to increase
agricultural and dairy productions.
It will also improve the production capability of a milk processing
centre, Sonoda said.
The second project will be implemented by JEN and over 250 families
in Batticaloa will benefit.
"JEN has provided emergency and reconstruction assistance for
conflicted affected areas across the world. JEN started its operations
in Sri Lanka after the tsunami in 2004. JEN has also focused on
assisting people affected by the war in the East since 2007 and North
since 2009," JEN's Colombo Office Head Inomata said. |
