Three injured in blast

Three persons, including a 14 year old girl were injured in the Kalundegama area yesterday when a tomba bullet ( a grenade used with a launcher ) exploded in a quarry in Thambuttegama.

They were admitted to Thambuttegama hospital and later transferred to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Tharindu Nadeesha, 14, and two others were injured while they were collecting metal in the quarry to be purchased.

Police said that while the two adults were working, the girl had gone in search of bird eggs.

She found the grenade and it was mistaken for a battery.

The 40 mm grenade exploded when they threw it away police stated.

Thambuttegama police are investigating.
