Botanical Gardens earn record income

The Botanical Gardens earned an income of Rs 41 million in January -
the highest income in a month ever recorded, National Botanical Gardens
Director General Dr Cyril Wjesundara said.
Among those who visited the Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya in
January were Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Prince Michael is the
grandson of King George the fifth, he said. On Independence Day, 15,877
people visited the Botanical Gardens. The Peradeniya Gardens had 10,404
visitors while Hakgala had 4,459 visitors and Gampaha 1,014 visitors.
This included 1,079 foreign visitors, he said. This is the highest
number of visitors the Botanical Gardens had on a day.
The average number of visitors at a weekend is 6,600. The total
income for that day is Rs 1.84 million rupees, he said.
