Some criticizing for the sake of criticizing - ministers

Certain Opposition politicians who are talking against the fuel price hike are not experienced persons. They did not hold any ministerial portfolio even when their party was in power, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday.

"They are only talking against the fuel price hike. They are unable to provide an alternative to this issue," he said.

The minister was addressing a special press briefing at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday. Minister Sirisena said that these measure have been taken for a better future for the country's future generations.

"A number of developed countries like America, Italy and England are also facing problems due to inflation. As a developing country we should have political stability. The country is witnessing rapid development at present," the minister said. Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said fuel prices had increased in the global market from January 3, 2012.

"The government did not increase fuel prices at that time. If the government did not increase the price of fuel this time, the country would have to face a serious situation," he said.

"The government had taken measures to provide relief to certain sectors," the minister said.
