All Ceylon Buddhist Congress(ACBC) has drawn up plans to launch many
programmes to develop ancient and rural Buddhist sites throughout the
country ACBC president Jagath Sumathipala said.
They have mainly paid their attention to develop and make people
aware about areas which faced many terrorist activities of the past 30
years, he said.
As a major programme, after his reappointment as the ACBC president
he is planning to give priority to such programmes centering rural areas
in the country. There are a number of ancient and historic Buddhist
temples in the Eastern and Northern Provinces. People are not aware of
these sacred sites. Therefore it is the duty and responsibility of the
present generation to protect such sites for the future generation, he
said.
Sumathipala was elected uncontested as ACBC president for the third
term last January, at its 85th annual general meeting held at the ACBC
headquarters. He had been serving the ACBC Executive Committee since
2002.
The ACBC hosted the 25th General Conference and 60th anniversary of
the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB), the 16th General Conference of
the World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY) and the eighth meeting of
the World Buddhist University (WBU) at the Cinnamon Grand hotel, Colombo
from November 13-17, B.E. 2554 (2010).
Punarudhdha Kriya Waliya is another project of the ACBC which was
