Rs 150 m revenue from online visa

Sri Lanka earned Rs 150 million revenue from the recently introduced on line visa payment system for January. The online visa system was introduced last month and response from the international travellers has been good for this initiative. The UK travellers rank top in the list of making the highest online visa payments for the same period, followed by travellers from Germany, France , India and Sweden, Immigration and Emigration Controller Chulananda Perera said.

However, Sri Lankan authorities have been informed about a mass money swindling activity with regard to online visa payment system. It is disclosed that many fake websites have been designed to swindle money away from the accurate online visa payment system created by Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).

Several foreign nationals who intended to obtain Sri Lanka visa have fallen for these kind of frauds owing to lack of their awareness on the Lanka Gate Internet Payment Gateway (IPG) which was created by (ICTA) to enable foreign nationals to make visa payments.
