Religious ceremonies

The 64th National Day celebrations will commence with religious observances being conducted in places of religious interest in the Anuradhapura city.

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne will participate in Buddhist religious observances at the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises at 6.30 am today. Parliamentarian Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha will attend the Christian religious activities which will take place on 6.30 am today at the Maithree Christ Church at Anuradhapura. Islamic religious activities will also be held at the Mohideen Jumma Mosque in Anuradhapura.

The Buddhist religious observances will be conducted by members of Maha Sangha led by Atamasthanadhipathi and Chief Sanganayake of the Central and North Central Provinces Ven Pallegama Sirinivasa Thera. The Hindu religious observances will be held at the Kadiresan Kovil in Anuradhapura. Roman Catholic observances will also be conducted at St Joseph�s Church, Anuradhapura under the patronage of Bishop of Anuradhapura Rt Rev Norbert Andradi at 6.30 am.
