Nearly 394 cases of Thalassaemia identified

Provincial Director of Health Kurunegala, Dr R M S K Ratnayake, said that 394 cases of Thalassaemia have been identified in Kurunegala and Puttalam recently.

He was addressing a Thalassaemia Workshop which was held at the Kurunegala Health Ministry, presided by Provincial Minister Asoka Wadigamangawa.

He said the government had to spend a large sum of money daily to treat Thalassaemia patients, whose medicines were much more costly than other medicines. He said that it was very difficult to manage a hospital by depending only on government funds.
