Bananas to be cultivated in NWP

The Food Production Development Unit of the Agro and Food Technology Organization, has started to grow bananas in selected Divisional Secretary areas in the North Western Province.

Under this programme, it has been proposed to provide high grade saplings, adequate water supply, organic fertilizer and the latest technical advice, according to a spokeswoman, who stated that the fertilizer would be channelled through the North Western Provincial Council. She said that banana was one of the most important fruits cultivated in all parts of Sri Lanka.

She further stated that the food product development group hopes to collaborate with potential entrepreneurs in developing banana products for commercialisation.
