Sri Lanka dominates beach VB

Sri Lanka I team which consisted of Wasantha Ratnapala and Jude
Mahesh won the gold medal for men�s beach volleyball when they defeated
Sri Lanka II pair Naveen Sampath and Pubudu Kumara two sets to nil at
the South Asian Beach Games in Hambantota yesterday.
The f irst set saw Sri Lanka I winning by 21-17. The fist set took
longer to finish as both teams gave each other a lot of competition.
In the second set, SL I were 12 while the other home pair were 9 at
the first time out. Wasantha and Jude used their tactics rather than
attacking their opponent and they comprehensively beat Naven and Pubudu
by 21-11. The match saw Sri Lanka winning both Gold and Silver medals.
Lankan women secure gold and silver
In the women�s beach volleyball final too, the story was the same.
Sri Lanka women�s beach volleyball team I and II competed for the gold.

Ganga Sagari and Sujeewa Vithanage finished the first set by 21-17
and Geethika and Thaksila, Sri Lanka II team had to give their best to
overcome them.
In the second set, Geethika and Thaksila took what they were asked
for and nailed the second set at 21-17, making it one all.
In the third set, SL I team led the score board from the beginning
though the other pair was chasing behind and equaled at 15 all. But it
was Sri Lanka II pair who finished the game at 17-15, making it a 2-1
victory to secure the gold medal.
Sri Lanka meet India in netball final
Sri Lanka overcame Pakistan by 22-17 in beach netball to advance for
the final It was not the best of performance by the home team at the
start as they missed some golden opportunities to steal points.
However the hosts got back into the game with some quick points to
finish the match at 22 when Pakistan were five points behind.
Earlier, Sri Lanka beat Maldives by 21-15. At the end of the first
half, Sri Lanka led 10-3.
Sri Lanka will meet India in the netball final which will be played
at 9.00am today at Hambantota beach games venue.
India, Pakistan joint gold medalists
India and Pakistan became joint gold medalists in beach handball when
both teams scored equal number of goals in the penalty shoot.
Pakistan won the first set by 26-16 but lost the second set to India
by 16 -18.
In the penalty shoot out both teams scored four goals each when
handball games technical director Mohommad Shafeek decided to adjudge
both teams as gold medalists.
Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by 23-18 in beach handball to collect a
silver, the first and only South Asian Beach Games medal for them,
yesterday at Hambantota beach.
Sri Lanka after a slow start managed to put themselves in the right
track by reducing the margin considerably. However Afghanistan at the
end of the first half were 14 against Sri Lanka 11 points.
When the final whistle blew it was 18 for the hosts and Afghans were
five ahead.
