Constriction boom in Jaffna

There will be massive property development projects in the North and
the East provinces by 2012.
Ceylon Institute of Builders Chairman Dr. Rohan Karunaratne told
Daily News Business that there is an increased demand from a booming
construction industry in post war Sri Lanka.
Plans are underway to implement a large number of projects in the
Jaffna peninsula in 2012 including mega water projects, power plants,
hotels, housing projects and others.
He also said that several places in the North and the East provinces
are gaining in popularity as hot tourist destination since end of the 30
years war.
Star class hotels will be constructed in Jaffna with an investments
running in to millions to capitalize on the booming tourism industry.
The hotel business is set to boom this year and as many as 14 are
being constructed in Pasikudah this year.
Apart from these projects several road infrastructure development
projects have been implemented by the government to uplift the living
standards of the people in the North and the East. He said that the
Eastern province road infrastructure development project is scheduled to
be completed by 2012.
A large number of buildings that were damaged in to the war have been
now reconstructed. Plans are underway to build a large convention centre
in Jaffna to cater to growing convention market. |
