SLCSMI 'Industrial Excellence Award' in November

The Sri Lanka Chamber of Small and Medium Industries (SLCSMI), the pioneer Chamber for Small and Medium Industry in the country celebrates its 48th anniversary with the "Industrial Excellence Award 2011" for the sixth consecutive year. The grand presentation ceremony will be held on November 22 at "Waters Edge".


The 2010 Award Ceremony- Platinum Award Winner.

A special feature of this ceremony is the emphasis on the Small Enterprises in the eight Provinces of the country with the Regional Development Bank being the Principal Sponsor with 255 branches in the eight provinces including the northern and eastern regions. The respective Banks will be inviting their clients to participate at this event and President of the Chamber, Aloy Jayawardane, anticipates over 500 applicants from the eight provinces competing for the eight recognition awards.

Regional Development Bank (RDB) Chairperson Janaki Kuruppu said plans are underway to open 10 more branches in the provinces by next year.

The Bank will take measures to inculcate the savings habit among rural people, providing good return for deposits and savings, encouraging schoolchildren and minors to save money and above all to empower the poor by encouraging them to start income generating activities for their development.

The Chamber will provide resource persons from its membership to deliver lectures in all three languages to improve the activities of both the saving habit and business activities. "Arrangements for these seminars will be made by the Bank in the eight provinces," Chamber President Jayawardane said.

The Selection Committee for the "IEA 2011" will be chaired by Professor Kapila Jayasinghe of the Moratuwa University and others will be representatives from the Board of Investment (BOI), Export Development Board (EDB), Ministry of Industry and Commerce, National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), a representative of the Regional Development Bank (RDB) with a representative of the Chamber.

The main Award for this event is the "Platinum" which carries an Elegant Trophy and a Cash Prize of Rs 50,000. This competition also carries Gold, Silver and 7 bronze Awards.

The chief guest on this occasion will be Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Kathy Klugman.
