Essay contest winners
Sarath MALALASEKERA
The awards ceremony of the 19th annual all island essay competition
conducted by Lions Clubs International - District 306 A 2 was held at
the Dharmavijaya Foundation Auditorium, Colombo recently.
This programme is organized to coincide with International Day
Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. District Governor Lion
Chandra Katuwawela MJF accompanied by Lion Lady Indi were the chief
guests.
The winners of the Sinhala medium competition: KP Bimali Madeesha
Keerthisingha of Viskha Vidyalaya, Hashani Erandi Wickremasinghe of
Payagala Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya and S A Geethika Darshani of
Dodangoda Maha Vidyalaya and Arjuna Prabath Perera of Sumangala Boys�
School, Panadura, Pavithra Hansaki Hemamali Dharmarathne of Kalutara
Balika National School and KM Roshani Nadeesha Bandara of Holy Family
Convent, Kurunegala.

Conferred Masters Degree in European Law
Saranga Dissanayake was conferred a Masters Degree in European Law by
the Stockholm University having finished first in the order of merit.
She obtained an A grade for her Master Thesis Comparison of US Antitrust
Law and EU Competition Law on the Refusal to Supply/License or Deal in
Intellectual Property Rights thereby qualifying to read for her PhD.
She was adjudged winner of the Best Oral Argument in a competition to
select the most succinctly argued presentation on a commercial law
perspective. The subject of debate was The Infringement of the Movement
of Goods and Services and Human Rights.
Dissanayake read for her LLB (Law) in 2007 at the University of
Leicester in UK and graduated with a Second Class, Honors Degree. She
received her primary and tertiary education at Musaeus College, Colombo
7. Prior to doing her Masters Degree, she completed an internship as a
Law Researcher at Tiruchelvam Associates. She is the daughter of Keerthi
Dissanayake, CEO Senok Aviation Private Limited and granddaughter of
late Advocate K.W.E. Perera.
