Colombo-Kandy intercity train service daily

The intercity train service between Colombo Fort and Kandy which operated only during the weekends will begin to operate on a daily basis from July 15, following the huge commuter demand.

General Manager of Railways B.A.P. Ariyaratne said that this train service commenced operations from June 26. The train operated only on Saturdays and Sundays earlier.

But, we have decided to operate this service on weekdays as well. The train will leave the Colombo Fort Railway Station at 9.30 a.m. and reach Kandy at 11.57 a.m. It leaves Kandy at 5.45 p.m. and reaches Colombo Fort at 8.16 p.m. He said that the train will only stop at Peradeniya.

This train has four second class compartments and an observation car.

A second class ticket will cost Rs 220 and an observation car ticket is priced at Rs 360, he said.
