Project to develop northern rural schools

The Education Ministry is conducting a programme to develop rural
schools in the North with the assistance of the Defence Ministry,
Education Ministry sources said.
Under this programme resources of schools in the most remote areas in
Jaffna are being developed. The Education Ministry will also fulfil
demands in human resources.
Under the first phase of the project, measures have been taken to
improve building facilities in Mahajana College in Thellippalai. A
three- storeyed building is being constructed at a cost of Rs 25
million.
Apart from classrooms, a library and a laboratory will be established
in the new building. After completing the first phase, several other
schools will also be developed.
Security forces personnel are assisting this programme under the
supervision of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The aim of the
project is to establish a better educational environment in the schools
in the North.
All facilities will be provided to selected schools for students to
engage in educational activities without any hindrance, an Education
Ministry official said. |
