Thousands throng Amadhahara Vesak Zone

The second day of the Amadhahara Vesak Zone,organized by The
Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) in association with Sri
Lanka Telecom (SLT) was declared opened by Western Province Chief
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Ranatunga said that all
Buddhists are celebrating Vesak happily in these peaceful times.
"Vesak is the main Buddhist religious festival in Sri Lanka.
"Buddhists all over the country are celebrating the triple
anniversary of the Buddha, the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi," he said.

Amaradasa, Secretary (ANCL) Kumudu Gunawardena, Public Relations Manager
P S Illesinghe and a number of ANCL employees participated in the
inauguration of the Vesak Zone for the second day.
ANCL Director Editorial Seelarathna Senarath speaking on the occasion
said that ANCL provides news to the people in all three languages.
"The circulation of the Budusarana has increased by 500,000 copies
during the Vesak season," he said.
The Amadhahara Vesak Zone consists of a Vesak lantern competition and
exhibition, Bakthi Gee presentations by renowned singers and ANCL
employees, puppet shows and several dansalas.
Tens of thousands of people visited the Amadahara Vesak Zone
yesterday.
This is the 21st year that ANCL has organized the Vesak lantern
competition and the Vesak Zone.
Attractive prizes are on offer for winners of the Vesak lantern
competition. TV Derana and FM Derana are the electronic media sponsors
and the main events of the Amadhahara Vesak Zone is being broadcast over
Derana.
Several government and private institutions in the vicinity of Lake
House are participating in this year's Amadhahara Vesak Zone.
It would be open to the public today as well in the vicinity of Lake
House building at D R Wijewardene Mawatha.
