'The UN report submitted by the special committee appointed by UN
Secretary General Ban ki-Moon on alleged accountability issues is a fine
example of how the UN is influenced by world super powers for their
agendas, National Freedom Front (NFF) political committee member and
former Culture Minister Piyasiri Wijenayake said.
He was addressing the media to express the NFF's standpoint on the
report submitted by the special committee appointed by the UN Secretary
General Ban ki-Moon, at the NFF main office Battaramulla.
"The UN which has been formed to maintain peace in the world has
moved away from its aim and started to function in the interests of
imperialists such as America, France and Britain.
"It is disheartening that instead of applauding the humanitarian
mission carried out by the Sri Lankan security forces led by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa against the world's most ruthless and barbaric
terrorists, the UN is attempting to make Sri Lankan heroic security
forces accountable before an international tribunal.
"The report based on false information publicized by LTTE
sympathizers can never be a UN report since the three member advisory
panel was appointed arbitrarily without any legal mandate by UN
Secretary General Ban-ki-Moon, saying they were appointed only to advise
him on accountability issues on Sri Lanka. The UN can appoint a
committee to investigate alleged accountability issues of a country only
if it has the approval of the UN General Committee," he said. |
