The International Women�s Day
commemoration program was held under the patronage of
Constructions, Engineering Services, Housing and Common
Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa on Tuesday at the

Stolen goods found
Two men suspected of stealing jewellery and cash valued at Rs 100,000
and Rs 10,150 were arrested by Bulathsinhala police Tuesday. Police
recovered the stolen goods and the money. The suspects were due to be
produced before the Matugama Magistrate.
Bulathsinhala police are investigating.
World Kidney day
A renal diseases screening clinic will be held free at the Western
Infirmary Hospital, Borella today from 9 am to 4 pm to mark World Kidney
Day which falls on March 10.
Health Services Director General Dr Ajith Mendis will open the
clinic. Colombo University lecturer in Medicine Dr Eranga Wijewickrama
will deliver a lecture on 'Protect your Kidneys, save your heart.'
Lecture
Professor H D Gunawardhana, who has been appointed as Senior
Professor of Chemistry at the College of Chemical Sciences of the
Institute of Chemistry will deliver the fourth Inaugural professional
lecture on the topic "Chemistry for Sustainable Utilization of Material
Resources of Sri Lanka" at 4 pm on Monday, March 14 at Adamantane House,
341/22, Kotte Road, Welikada, Rajagiriya. The lecture is open to the
public.
Chamathkara
The Mind-Body Stress Reduction Program initiated by Vishva Niketan
Peace Centre will present 'Chamathkara' - A Spiritual Therapy Symphony -
'Chamathkara' is a fusion of spirituality and therapy which includes
Music Therapy, Food Therapy and Hatha Yoga Therapy.
The maiden 'Chamathkara' - Spiritual Therapy Symphony program will be
launched on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Vishva
Samadhi Conference Hall, Moratuwa.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Alumni Association of the
University of Peradeniya (AAUP) is to be held on Sunday, March 27, 2011
at 9.30 am at the Arts Theatre, Faculty of Arts, University of
Peradeniya.
Inland revenue commissioner General MKMS Kandegedara will grace the
occasion as the Chief Guest, and University of Peradeniya
Vice-Chancellor Prof SBS Abayakoon as the Guest of Honour.
The AGM will be followed by a lunch and fellowship at the
Vice-chancellor's residence for AAUP members and other alumni of the

Raids fetch Rs 9.3 m

The excise department in their raids in the Northwestern region
detected unlawful activities and after Legal Action, Rs 9.3 million was
fined.
The department unit, acting on the Mathata Thitha concept made 901
raids in 2010, of which 146 cases were large scale violations of the
excise laws. The 146 cases were raids on illicit liquor.
Woman knocked down
Maligaikadu group corr
A woman who was walking along the Ampara-Kalmunai road was knocked
down by a vehicle at Sainthamaruthu, injuring her seriously.
She was rushed to the Sainthamaruthu district hospital and
transferred to the Ampara hospital. The victim was identified as M A
Fathima Ummah, a resident of the same area.
Magistrate orders arrest of suspects
Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Additional District Judge Dharshika
Wimalasiri yesterday ordered the Police to arrest the suspects involved
in the shooting of Jaffna district Parliament Member S Sridharan's
vehicle.
Sridharan's vehicle came under attack by unidentified gunmen at
Ulukkulama recently.
The Anuradhapura headquarters Police CID in a B report pleaded the
Court to order permission to consult the Government analyst to determine
whether there had been a grenade attack.

been recommended a kidney transplant operation.
The operation and subsequent medical treatments will cost over Rs
