SriLankan to flex wings:

Direct flights to Canada from October

SriLankan Airlines will fly to new destinations in line with the ongoing aviation sector development initiatives, Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne said.

SriLankans will fly to Toronto, Canada for the first time from October. The Airlines will fly seven times per week with a stopover in Londons Heathrow.

There is a big load of air passengers from Colombo to London and London to Toronto and back. Therefore, moves will be taken to cater to this potential market. More facilities will be added together with the deployment of modern aircraft aiming to cater to this market potential, the Minister noted.

Jayaratne added that SriLankan Airlines have already taken initial preparation for operating the new destination. Under this, the SriLankan has informed its agents of this route and received a positive response. So far no direct flights have been operated to Canada.

ordance with the conclusions of bilateral talks held between SriLankan and the United Kingdom Airline officials in London in February, both countries have agreed to increase the number of flights between London and Colombo. Accordingly, the SriLankan Airlines will increase the number of flights to London from 13 to 14 by May and it will be gradually increased to 21 per week. Due to these developments SriLankan will have an advantage to reach Gatwick and Manchester airports in addition to the Heathrow airport.

In accordance with the conclusions, British Airways, British Midland International and Vergin Atlantic Airlines will fly to Sri Lanka.
