Norway to push development drive

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne with Norwegian Ambassador Hilda Haraldstad.

The Norwegian Government has agreed to expand investments in Sri Lanka, said Norway Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hilda Haraldstad when she met Prime Minister D M Jayaratne at Visumpaya yesterday.

She said a high level business delegation is due in Sri Lanka next year to start new industries, a press release issued by the Prime Minister's office said.

The Prime Minister said a better environment is prevailing in Sri Lanka for new investments. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the decision taken by the Norwegian Government to expand investments in Sri Lanka. He said plans are under way to strengthen the country's economy under the Mahinda Chintana vision. The Prime Minister also met Switzerland Ambassador to Sri Lanka Thomas Litscher yesterday.
