Medagama launches three books
Uvindu Illeperuma
Three books written by Central Bank official K M Herath Medagama were
launched at the Library and Documentation centre recently. Having
reached overall maturity in the banking sector Medagama had jotted down
some of his thoughts down on paper.
The book written on TV commercials looks upon the society after the
arrival of open economy and how consumerism came into being. Within this
backdrop Medagama focuses on how the consumer was swindled by the
companies. The open economy welcomes many products branded under the
Multi National Corporation and the market becomes clogged with
unnecessary goods.
Television commercials were conceptualized to make the market these
products. The book explained how the social conditions adopted by the
liberal economic agendas were helpful to exploit the consumer. It is
condensed with statistics related to TV commercials aired over the
channels.
The evolution of money and its communicative characteristics, the
second book written by Medagama chronologically explains how the units
of money were evolved and how they communicate. This is of importance to
the students those who study economics.
Born and bread in Yapahuwa Madagama is fully aware of the history of
his region. This fact comes to light in his book on Yapahuwa artifacts.
This book is a comprehensive study over the arts and crafts of the
Yapahuwa kingdom.
The book launch was chaired by Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard
Cabraal.
The books are S. Godage and Brothers publications. |
