Navy Commander meets Northern fishing community
Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, during
his recent official visit to the Northern Naval Area, met with the
fishing community at Karainagar Island and discussed matters related to
the fishing industry in the area. He looked into their professional
welfare and sought their views on how best the Navy could further assist
in their fishing activities.
The Commander pointed out that the restrictions which the fishing
community faced during the past war period, are no more with the dawning
of Peace and the Navy with the Government authorities have taken steps
to uplift the professional life of all fishing communities.
He also elaborated on the concessions granted to fishing communities
to engage in their livelihood with greater freedom enabling them to
contribute to the island-nation�s economy with increased fish harvests.
