Another 1,000 IDPs resettled

The resettlement of around 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons in Ganeshapuram, Kattayamalei, Muththuwinayagapuram, Mankulam east, Pannikulam and Indupuram villages commenced yesterday.

Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said the Government has restarted the resettlement process in a big way under the strategic plan after the Presidential Election. Accordingly, measures have been taken to resettle the people twice a week from now.

The Governor said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had directed State authorities to provide assistance to re-settle the IDPs in their native places without delay.

Accordingly, they are provided with all obligatory requirements till they are settled in their original places under the guidelines of Senior Presidential Advisor, Head of Presidential Task Force on Resettlement, Development and Security of the Northern Province Basil Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, 1232 members of 300 families in Pooneryn division, 194 members of 49 families in Vilathikulam, Madhu, 1500 members of 613 families in Thunukkai, 690 members of 260 families in Manthai East and 1000 members of 350 families in Karachchi, Kilinochchi had already been resettled by the Government.

The Governor further said that everything has been put in place to resettle the people in three GS divisions in Paranthan of the Kilinochchi district.
