Sri Lanka held at Health and Budo Centre Arena Kurunegala.
This is a major annual event of the AIKO which is a new full contact
karate style in Sri Lanka.
It is a remarkable thing that Udeni Rangama and Srimal Rodrigo were
the champion and runner-up in the middle weight class at the first
National Full contact Karate Championship which was organized by the Sri
Lanka Karate-Do Federation and the Ministry of sports and public
recreation in 2009. There were four heavy weight category matches, a
one-match fight and a K-1 Kick-boxing exhibition match took place in
this tournament.

Ashihara Karate is basically named after Hideyuki Ashihara, but
during several decades the original style has been divided in several
systems and organizations. Ashihara International Karate is one of these
spun offs, and is one of many of the "full-contact" systems in karate,
emphasizing realistic combat, physical toughness, and practicality in
its training curriculum. It is presently known as one of the strongest
forms of karate, with a strong desire in evolution and open minded
approach.
Ashihara International is led by Shihan David Michael Jonkers (8th
DAN) and his student and partner Shihan Semmy Schilt (6th DAN) who is
the current K-1 World Grand Prix Kick-boxing champion.
AIKO's main dojo is located in Netherlands and it has many branches
over the world. including Sri Lanka. Sensei Priyantha Rajapaksa (Third
DAN) heads the Sri Lankan branch and he is also the chief instructor of
AIKO Sri Lanka. |
