-Kataragama bus service
The bus will ply daily from
Lake House premises Colombo at 10 pm to Kataragama via
Ratnapura and return the following day via Matara.

�The President ended the 30-year-old war and kept one of his
promises. Now all of us have to make our contributions towards his dream
of achieving development,� Information and Media Minister Anura
Priyadarshana Yapa said.
Addressing the re-launching ceremony of ANCL�s Colombo�Kataragama bus
service, Minister Yapa said the ANCL has re-launched the Colombo�Kataragama
bus service showing great social responsibility.
The ANCL does not need to operate a transport service to earn money.
ANCL is one of the media institutions which earns Rs. 3 billion annually
and today the institution needs to move forward blending its proud
history and modern technology,� he said.
Minister Yapa pointed out that President Mahinda Rajapaksa ended the
30-year long war not giving into pressure by the international
community. �But past leaders such as J.R. Jayewardene gave up
eradicating terrorism at the last moment even after trapping Prabhakaran
inside Vadamarachchi due to international pressure.
President Rajapaksa ended the war within three years and gave freedom
to the Sri Lankan public restricting his own freedom.
He made new friends with some countries while strengthening
friendship with others.
The persons who closed down newspapers during their time speak about
press freedom today.
Road Passenger Transport Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said the ANCL
relaunched the bus service on a significant day which coincides with the
birthday of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the fourth anniversary
of Mahinda Chinthanaya.
There are about 17,000 private buses at the moment and the Transport
Minister Dullas Alahapperuma issued only six permits for six buses so
far and all of them for the Colombo�Jaffna route.
It is very timely that the ANCL recommenced the service and the main
responsibility of all is providing a quality transport service to the
public,� he said.
ANCL Chairman Bandula Padmakumara, Directors Nihal Ratnaike, Upul
Dissanayake and officials were present.
