Over Rs 5,250 m spent for 150 Isuru Pasal

The Education Department has taken measures to construct 150 Isuru Pasal (Schools with better facilities) in line with the 10 year Education Sector Development Program. Rs. 5,250 million has been allocated for this project.

These Isuru Pasal are scheduled to be constructed throughout the country aiming to offer equal education opportunities for all students in every part of the country.

Under a policy decision of the Education Ministry, one Isuru Pasal will be constructed in each GA division throughout the country. However priority is given to GA divisions which have been neglected. The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and each Isuru Pasal is allocated Rs. 35 million.

The money will be utilised to improve all academic and other facilities such as building repairs, constructing computer laboratories, providing water and sanitary facilities and many more infrastructure facilities.

The Education Ministry has already commenced construction of 71 Isuru Pasal in 71 GA divisions while another 27 GA divisions have been identified.

The Ministry has allocated Rs. 2,570 million for the 71 Isuru Pasal at which constructions are going on. Mampuriya Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim Vidyalaya will be the first Isuru Pasal and it will be commissioned by President Mahinda Rajapaksa early next year.
