Ayurveda doctors to benefit under national policy
Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadde said special provision
to grant employment to Ayurvedic doctors would be incorporated into the
national policy program now being formulated for presentation to the
Cabinet.
The Minister made this revelation at a sub-committee meeting held at
the Ministry recently where matters relating to this were discussed.
During this discussion it was revelled that nearly 1,200 ayurvedic
doctors are currently serving in hospitals run both by provincial
councils and the Central Government.
Since there are a fewer number of ayurvedic hospitals and medical
centres in the country, there are limited opportunities for employment
of these doctors.
Therefore medical services outside the scope of the existing ones
should be opened up and the attention of the Government will be drawn to
this vital aspect.
