Ten thousand benefit from 306C2 Lions Multi-Service Project

Over 10,000 people benefited from Lions International District 306C2
annual multiservice project held at Wilfred Senanayake Ground Homagama.

It was organised in collaboration with the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha
under the guidance of chief advisor Past District Governor, 306C2, Lion
Lasantha Goonewardena. Project Chairman was Lion Sunil Gamage, Project
Secretary, Lion Asela Karunawardena and Project Treasurer was Lion Ruwan
Praboda Peiris.
District Governor 306C2, Lion Nimal Bulathsinghala was the chief
guest while Homagama PS Chairman, Ranga Abeysinghe was the guest of
honour.
Over 28 service activities were offered free to over 10,000 needy
people during the two-day service project.
Highlights of the service activities were: donation of brand new
spectacles to over 2,000 needy people after eye-testing, donation of dry
rations to over 200 poor families, donation of exercise books to over
1,000 students, donation of plants to 1,000 people and donation of
wheelchairs.

A program for pregnant mothers too were conducted and over 200
parcels of nutrition food were donated. A health camp too was conducted
and free medicines were given. Another special feature was an Art
Competition held for schoolchildren and each participant was awarded a
certificate, while the winners received valuable prizes.
A unique feature of the event was a Peace Marathon and Peace Cycle
Race where the winners received cash prizes and other presentations.
A blood donation camp too was held and over 300 persons donated blood
to the Blood Bank.
Leos of the district conducted a program to donete eyes and more than
500 people agreed to donate their eyes.
Welcome address was delivered by Project Chairperson, Lion Sunil
Gamage, Deputy Cabinet Secretary.
In his keynote address PDG Lion Lasantha Goonewardena emphasised the
purpose of the project. He highlighted that each day Lions are rendering
services to the needy in different parts of the island in different
ways.
Today we have gathered many Lions Clubs and Government bodies into
one place and helped many people who are in dire need of different
services.
He said that this program was initiated in the year 2006 when he was
the District Governor and this program turned out to be a tremendous
success ever since.
Many clubs in District 306C2 followed this service program by which
thousands of needy people were benefitted. �A noteworthy feature was
that multiservice projecs were conducted in Ampara and Batticaloa, under
this program.
District Governor, 306C2, Lion Nimal Bulathsinghala paid a tribute to
Project Chairman, the team of organizers and clubs in the district for
their untiring efforts and contributions made to make the event a big
success. Among those who were present was Western Provincial Councillors
Gamini Thilakasiri and Manju Sri Arangala and Homagama PS Chairman,
Ranga Abeysinghe. The multiservice project ended with a grand musical
show sponsored by Deputy Cabinet Secretary, Lion Sunil Gamage and
Project Treasurer, Lion Ruwan Praboda Peiris.
Inner Wheel Club of Colombo South
Workshop on draping sarees

Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Colombo South organised a
demonstration and workshop on draping sarees in various styles. This
show took place at St Pauls Milagiriya Church Hall last week.

The District Chairperson of the Inner Wheel District 322 Swarna Soysa
was the Chief Guest at the workshop. The National Representative of the
Inner Wheel District Mangales Pathmanathan and many other distinguished
guests graced the occasion. The funds raised from the show will be used
to educate young males and females from the Internally Displaced Camps
in Vanni, on Screen Printing. This will enable them to secure jobs once
they are settled in their respective hometowns.
Inner Wheel International is the largest women only organization
dedicated to serve the poor and deprived and therefore striving to make
a better future for them.

Inner Wheel Club of Colombo South was chartered in the year 2000 by a
few very enthusiastic and vibrant women who had a passion to help the
underprivileged and the needy from our society, said President, Inner
Wheel Club of Colombo South Nalayini Pathmanathan.
Inner Wheel Club of Colombo South has helped many young females to
proceed with their higher education, donated urgently needed items to
tsunami victims conducted medical camps in remote areas, donated medical
equipment to hospitals, provided meals and essential items to
orphanages, to mention a few of their services, Nalayini said. The
demonstration and workshop was conducted by Lesnie Mendis, a well known
beautician with years of experience in bridal dressing.
Lesnie who hails from Moratuwa was attached to Mohan Lal Foundation
where she gained invaluable experience in conducting workshops. She has
conducted over 50 such workshops. All the young participants of these
workshops have enjoyed and gained knowledge in the intricacies of
draping sarees in traditional as well as fashionable manner.
The event also housed many stalls with sarees, clothes and food
items.
Warm welcome for Rotary International President
Rotary International President 2006-2007, Bill Boyd arrived in Sri
Lanka to participate as the Chief Guest at the 80th anniversary of
Rotary in Sri Lanka.
He was accorded a warm welcome by Rotarians of Rotary District 3220.

Series of service projects by DG 306B-1 Lion Lakshman Wijesinghe
A series of service projects were conducted by District Governor,
306B1, Lion Lakshman Wijesinghe.
One of the major projects was the opening of the children�s park at
Nayanaloka Gama Housing 60 blind families. Cabinet Secretary Lion Dr.
Seba Jayamaha, President of the Delathura-Tudella Lions Club, Lion
Ranitha Jayamaha, District Chairperson, Lion Jude Tissera, Zone
Chairpersons, Lion Priyaneetha Perera, Lion Janaka Nugera and Lion
Nishantha Adhikari.
District Governor, 306B1, Lion Lakshman Wijesinghe participated at 24
service projects including the handing over of houses to tsunami victims
in Lion�s Regions 8, 9 and 10.
DG Lakshman Wijesinghe also participated at the ceremonial opening of
the Tsunami Housing Projects at Sri Murugan Colony-1, Sri Murugan
Colony-2, and Sanithiyan Colony in the Jaffna Peninsula, which are
funded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).

Vice District Governor, Lion S. Jeyavathsalan, Cabinet Secretary, Lion
Dr. Seba Jayamaha, Deputy Cabinet Secretary Lion Stephen Leonard and
Deputy Cabinet Treasurer, Lion C. Sunthareswaran, also participated.
To foster unity among families of Lions, Lions District 306B-1
organised a sports day which turned out to be a fun filled day for over
350 Lions, Lion Ladies and children who took part in various games.
Games such as tug-o-war bicycle races and relays for Lions and Lion
Ladies were some of the fun filled items.
Cabinet Secretary Lion Dr. Seba Jayamaha, District Chairperson
(Sports) Lion Dhammika de Zoysa, District Coordinator for special
events, Lion Mevan Algama and District Coordinator for Sports and
Recreation Lion S. Hariratna, Region Chairperson, Lion Shamendra
Gunasekera and Zone Chairperson, Lion Dinesh Perera played a major role
to make the sports day a big success.

Heart clinic by Mahalwarawa Lions
A medical camp conducted by the Lions Club of Mahalwarawa was one of
the highlights at the two-day annual multi-service project organised by
Lions International District 306C2, and held at Homagama.
A special feature of the medical camp was the �Heart Clinic� at which
ECG reports of a large number of needy patients were taken and free
treatment rendered. The kind gesture of the President, Lions Club of
Mahalwarawa, Lion Dr. Harsha Aluthge to render free service to the
patients, was highly appreciated.
The project was organised jointly by Lion Ranjith Fernando of the
Lions Club of Homagama, and Lions Club of Mahalwarawa.
Lions 306B-1 distributes chicks
Lions
Club International District 306B1 Region 4 organized a regional project
to distribute 3000 chicks among needy families at the Ekamuthu Hall at
Nayakakanda Hendala recently.
