The South Asian Institute of Technology and Management (SAITM)

at the University of Buckingham (UoB) yesterday, with the participation
of the head of Applied Computing, UoB Prof. Sabah Jassim and Research

“SAITM is the latest addition to the higher education sector in Sri
Lanka which was opened a few months ago. The total investment for SAITM
has increased to Rs. 700 million. We have further increased the
investment by Rs.200 million for the Medical Faculty which is still
under construction.
We are planning to open the Faculty of Medicine in September this
year, said Chairman, South Asian Institute of Technology and Management
(SAITM) Dr. Neville Fernando.
SAITM is not only for Sri Lankan students but also for all South
Asian region students. We have already received a positive response from
many foreign students who showed an interest to get enrolled in the
campus.
We are launching many advertising campaigns to attract foreign and
local students to the campus. We advertise in foreign magazines,
newspapers and also in the internet and there has been a favourable
response from foreign students especially in the Maldives and Singapore,
Dr. Fernando said.
“At present there are several IT degree programs at SAITM and we have
launched two new programs in Sri Lanka which would be a landmark in the
history of higher education in the country.
This is the first time that we have launched a two-year full time BSc.
Hony. degree program in a university. The course content is very much
industrial relevant and the most updated IT knowledge in the world,”
said the Head of the IT Department SAITM, Senior Lecturer, Chandima H.
de Silva.
“Compared to the other educational institutions, SAITM offers degree
programs at a very competitive price which any middle class family can
afford,” De Silva said.
