India wins bid for 2013 games

The organizing committee of the Lusofonia Games which met last
evening has unanimously decided to have the Games once in four years
instead of once in two years.
The Committee also finalized the decision to hold the next Games in
the year 2013. The three bidders for this Games were Sri Lanka, Brazil
and India. The organizers felt it right to go out of the Region and
awarded the bid to India. The venue for the event in India will be Goa,
a State which was under Portuguese rule for a long period.
The President of the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee Hemasiri Fernando
who was present at the meeting afterwards speaking to the press said
that though Sri Lanka forwarded a bid for the Games, later it decided to
support Indias bid.
Adding further he said that Sri Lanka gained medals in every
international meet only in athletics. This has been the plus point for
athletics. We should make a high productive program to go further than
this to achieve medals in other sports too.
This could be achieved through a program initiated in association
with the Ministry of Sports and the concerned governing bodies for
different sports.
If this method could be given priority Sri Lanka will be highly
benefitted in the future, especially at international level meets which
will bring us medals.
It has been a case that Sri Lanka participated in international
events in many fields without proper preparations which has resulted in
failures most of the times.
This could be averted with the governing bodies taking great care in
doing proper preparations before hand to avoid disappointments.
