Thomians out to maintain their impressive record

S. Thomas College will be hoping to maintain their impressive record
this season when they confront Trinity College Kandy in their annual
inter school rugby encounter for the Canon R. S. de Saram Shield at
Mount Lavinia today.
The Thomians have already made an impact in the A division league
tournament where they had the better of Isipatana College having earlier
gone down fighting against their traditional rivals Royal College in
their opening encounter.
In contrast Trinity College the last years league runners up had a
shock start to their campaign while losing to the newcomers St. Josephs
College 24-27 at the Pallekelle Stadium.
However they were able to recover from this setback and went on to
beat their home town rivals St. Anthonys College 49-10 in the next
outing.
This time of course the Trinitians will be playing away from home and
face a daunting task in retaining the Shield having won last years
fixture 15-10 following another thrilling match at the Bogambara
Stadium.
Even then S. Thomas College will take the field while brimming with
confidence and look set to continue with their excellent work this
season.
They showed a lot of character in the previous game where they came
from behind to snatch a memorable victory.

Royal-Peterite clash

inter school under 20 A division league rugby tournament match at
Bambalapitiya today.
Royal have already notched up two good victories over St. Anthonys
College and S. Thomas College Mount Lavinia and will be looking to
maintain the same momentum despite performing away from home.
In contrast St. Peters College will be coming out after a shock
defeat at the hands of Isipatana College last week and will be
determined to get their act together well in search of a morale boosting
victory.
However last year too St. Peters College suffered a demoralizing
12-17 defeat at the Royal College Sports Complex despite going in as the
clear favourites.
