On achievements to eradicate terrorism:
NCE commends Govt
The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) has
congratulated the unique achievements of our Armed Forces led by a
strong-willed political leadership, to wipe out terrorism from Sri
Lanka, inflicted by the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world.
The Chamber is proud that Sri Lanka has been able to show the world
what Sri Lankans could achieve with their unique skills, commitment and
dedication with the correct leadership in a mission which was thought to
be almost impossible by many in Sri Lanka and the outside world.
The Chamber is conscious, that the milestones of this mission have
been reached, not without the sacrifices made by so many in the armed
forces and the civil community, in a conflict that has been spread well
over two decades. Nevertheless it is gratifying that the sacrifices made
by our country both in terms of human lives, property and in economic
terms have not been in vain.
It is well-known that our exporters too have been able to survive and
grow in the midst of so many obstacles during the period of the conflict
demonstrating their own unique skills and abilities thereby making a
vital contribution to sustain the economy.
The Chamber is confident and optimistic that Sri Lanka is now poised
to forge ahead not only in the field of exports, but also in other
related fields such as tourism and investments as well, in the new
atmosphere of freedom and unity that will pervade our land from now on.
In this context the Chamber trusts that the Government will speedily
move ahead to offer and implement a reasonable and practical political
solution to root out the causes which have led to this conflict.
This is vital to ensure that terrorism will never raise its head any
more in our land; and peace and harmony, which is so vital for
accelerated economic growth, will prevail among all communities.
The Chamber also recognizes the fact that much remains to be done in
rebuilding infrastructure and other services particularly in the
conflict affected North and East of the country, to effectively harness
all resources, so that all communities will be able to enjoy the fruits
of development.
On its part the Chamber rededicates itself to support the State to
achieve the above objectives and also to encourage and support our
exporters to reach greater heights for the good of the country. |
