HNB register two victories in Nature VI cager tourney

BASKETBALL: Hatton National Bank registered two victories in the
ongoing Nature VI Basketball Tournament sponsored by the David Peiris
Motor Company (DPMC) which began last week at the Mercantile Cricket
Association Courts, Colombo 7.
They beat Paulians Basketball Club by 79 points to 51 in their
women's opening match after leading 32 to 21 points at the breather. Sri
Lanka national skipper Kumarine de Silva (27) and Erandi Gallage (16)
stood out for the winners while Shanika Jayasekara (8) and Wathsala
Dhananjali (15) were the top players for Paulians BC.
Hatton National Bank recorded their other victory over fancied Seylan
Bank. The latter were ahead with a very close margin by 27 points to 26
at half time but finally HNB made a stirring comeback to emerge
victorious by 55 points to 50.
Once again Erandi Gallage (24) and skipper Kumarine de Silva (20)
found the basket for the winners while Inoka Sandamalie (14) and Sanduni
Ballegala (12) were the best shooters for Seylan Bank.
Field Force Youth posted a 68 points to 48 win over Colombo Stallions
in a men's `A' group match. The former grabbed the half time lead at 26
points to 18.
Chamara Bandara (17) and Nilanga Bandara (15) piled up the basket
most for the winners while Gerald Jacob (18) and Rukshan Anuruddha (12)
did well for the losers. Sampath Bank beat David Peiris Motor Company SC
by 83 points to 69 in a men's `B' group match. The half time scores read
40 points to 35 in favour of Sampath Bank.
M.K. Shiran (20) and Chamath Dhanawansa (18) were the chief scorers
for the winners while Jagath Bandara (21) and Rusiru Ranasinghe (16)
were the main scorers for the losers.
Seylan Bank overwhelmed DPMC-SC women by 60 points to 53. Seylan Bank
held a 30 points to 23 lead at the breather.
Inoka Sandamalie (20) and Premila Fernando (17) were the top
performers for the winners while Shalika Gomes with a massive 29 points
and Kalpani Fernando (10) were the premier shooters for the losers.
Wattala Basketball Club defeated Wennappuwa Knights by a margin of 77
points to 71. Wennappuwa Knights dominated the half time scores at 43
points to 41.
For Wattala BC Niroshan Dushantha (19) and Shanith Jayaratne (16)
were the top players while Virantha Bastian with 30 points and Anton
Fernando with 10 points were the best shooters for Wennappuwa Knights.
Today Dialog Telekom will take on Colombo International School while
Colombo Stallions will confront Police SC tomorrow commencing at 6.00
p.m at MCA courts.
