PA Ex-Co decides to meet PM

by Jayantha Sri Nissanka

The People's Alliance (PA) Executive Committee on Saturday decided to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to explain the hardships encountered by PA supporters in Government institutions after the General Election.

The Committee advised PA General Secretary D. M. Jayaratne to get an appointment to meet Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. Accordingly, former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake will meet the Prime Minister shortly to seek redress for their supporters.

Former Minister Alavi Mowlana had said that their supporters were not allowed to report for duty. They have also been transferred to difficult areas.

Although Premier Wickremesinghe wants to stop confrontational politics and create a new political culture in the country, his subordinates were not following suit, Mowlana has said.

Many PA members have been remanded on false complaints made by government supporters in a bid to paralyse the PA's Local Government election campaign. This should be stopped, he has told the meeting.

Former Governor Ananda Dassanayake had presided in the absence of the President. PA General Secretary D. M. Jayaratne, MEP Leader Dinesh Gunawardena, Kingsley T. Wickremeratne, General Secretary of the Communist Party Dew Gunasekara, former MP Wimalasiri de Mel, Y. A. Izzeth and Jagath Navaratne and Raja Collure participated in the meeting.
