by L. B. Wijayasiri in Kandy IGP Lucky Kodituwakku opened a special ward for the treatment of Police personnel at the new kidney treatment section building at the Kandy General Hospital Teaching. This "Police Suwa Piyasa", a special unit for the treatment of police personnel was allocated along with another unit for the treatment of Army personenl in the same building that was constructed with public funds collected through the efforts of Drs. A. M. L. Beligaswatte, Director General, Health Services, Thilak Abeysekara Consultant Physician and Nihal Karunaratne, President, Hospital Committee. The Army unit was opened by the Army Commander on the same day. Director of the Hospital Dr. Kirthi Jayathillake, President Hospital Committee Dr. Nihal Karunaratne, Dr. Thilak Abeysekara, Consultant Physician in charge of the Kidney Unit were also present. IGP Kodituwakku paid tributes to Drs. Beligaswatte, Abeysekara and Karunaratne for their untiring efforts in making their dream of the new hospital building a reality and for allocating a Unit consisting of 33 beds for police personnel. It would be of immense help to those police personnel since large number of them who served in the operational areas were from areas around the Kandy District, the IGP added. |
