Sri Lanka Chamber of Small Industry message on the peace initiative "Peace on earth and goodwill among men", This message appears on Christmas cards that is exchanged among ourselves, during this season. Christmas celebration this year in Sri Lanka reflects the change that has taken place in the political scene of our country. A general election was concluded recently with unprecedented violence and bloodshed. In spite of victory or defeat, we must be thankful as a nation for the spirit and understanding that has descended on us. A moment of understanding has damned on all sides, a spirit of co-operation and reconciliation. Let us join hands and work together in adopting a policy of consensus polities. Our cry had always been for a government of National Reconciliation with the two major parties getting together. Sri Lanka now needs a durable political solution and constitutional reforms. The new government has shown a strong commitment to de-escalate the war and send humanitarian supplies to the conflict areas and commence peace talks with the LTTE. The Small Chamber wish to tell the new government to work together with the President to put country before politics and bring an end to confrontational politics and create an environment for national reconciliation. |
