Youth will be given pride of place - Labour Minister

The new Minister of Employment and Labour, Mahinda Samarasinghe said that he proposes to establish two institutions for training youth with various education standards to help them qualify for foreign employment and that hopes to fulfil this program in a short period of six months. He said he also hopes to start such centres in the Kalutara District as an example. Measures will also be taken to amend the existing law so as to facilitate the private sector enter into this program.

Speaking about the General Election held recently he said that the Kalutara district was led by him and was able to win seven (7) out of eight (8) electorates for the UNP with large majority of votes.

The PA was able to hold on to the electorate of the ex-Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake with a very slim majority.

"I express my gratitude to all those voters in the Kalutara district who helped me in this election campaign".

The UNP has been accepted by the whole country and it is our duty to fulfil their aspirations.

Lakshman Wijemanna, Kalutara District MP thanked the late Mr. E. L. Wijemanna and Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe who helped him become an MP to represent the Kalutara District.

Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Thera and Ven. Panapitiye Pemaratana Thera also spoke.
