by Ariyasena Ganegoda and N. M. Ameen Three powerful Ministers of the former PA regime - Prof. G. L. Peiris, S. B. Dissanayake and Mahinda Wijesekara - who are in the present Cabinet as well, have urged Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to appoint a Commission of Inquiry to probe allegations of corruption levelled against them. It is learnt that the three ministers have urged the Premier to conduct this investigation which will enable them to clear their names in the light of the malicious allegations made against them at PA political meetings and through the media during election time. They have pointed out that they opted to cross over to the then Opposition sacrificing their ministerial portfolios, as they had differences of opinion with the PA leadership on matters of principle. The PA launched a series of allegations against these three Ministers after the crossover. The allegations refer to their conduct as PA Cabinet Ministers. These three Ministers, while firmly refuting these allegations, have urged the Prime Minister to hold an inquiry during the first session of Parliament. |
