by Ratnapura group corrospondent The UNP and UNF administration would take immediate steps to uplift the deteriorating gem industry in Ratnapura district, under a crash program to be drawn up, without delay, said the UNP Assistant Leader and Ratnapura electoral group chief organiser, the new Minister of Transport, Highways and Aviation Gamini Atukorala at Ratnapura recently. He was addressing delegation of leading gem industrialists of Ratnapura who met him after his victory at the polls. Minister Atukorala said that facilities, concessions and technical innovations, will be provided for the uplift of the gem industry, under the UNP administration, more opportunities will be available for the gem entrepreneurs of all ranks in Sri Lanka, operations in mining, buying and selling. More opportunities will be provided to gem merchants making their sales in countries such as Madagascar, without any problems, through new and smooth diplomatic relations. The Minister agreed with the delegation, that the industry had not received, the basic relief it needed to put it on its feet, though steps had been taken by past administrations to put up palatial buildings.He would make the gem industry the "livewire" of the economic development of Sabaragamuwa the Minister Atukorala added. |
