Preserve unity of country by Trincomalee correspondent The newly elected Trincomalee Parliamentarian R. Sampanthan speaking to the media at his home after his victory at the General Election said that the Tamil National Alliance would appeal to the international community to impress upon the Sri Lanka Government and the Sinhala political parties in the opposition that a just and permanent political solution to the Tamil national question could preserve the unity and territorial integrity of the country. He said the Tamil National Alliance comprising four Tamil parties - TULF, ACTC, TELO, EPRLF would not allow the Tamil national question to be delayed any further indefinitely. Mr. Sampanthan said "moderate Tamil political parties have negotiated with the governments in power for the past fifty two years. No sinhala political leader or Sinhala political party can say that the moderate Tamil political leadership has not contributed constructively to find a solution to the Tamil national question. The international community is also fully aware of the contribution of the Tamil moderate political leadership towards finding a solution to the Tamil national question". He stressed that the blame for the non resolution of the Tamil question solely lies with the Sinhala political leadership. The main cause for the failure in evolving a just and durable solution to the Tamil problem is due to the lack of comprehension and inconsistency together with back of concencus amongst major Sinhala political parties. |
