NGO aids hamlet

by Matale district group correspondent

A Non-Governmental Organisation called Eco-culture Studies has made arrangements to develop Diyakepilla hamlet about three miles away from Sigiriya.

Under this program the social, economic and cultural activities in the area are due to be improved step by step.

At present 38 families are dwelling here. Paddy and chena cultivation are the main profession. However they have not been provided even the basic infrastructure facilities at any time.

Therefore Eco-culture Studies Unit has decided to provide agriculture facilities first. Later it is going to renovate all roads with a view to improve transport facilities.

In addition, so as to strengthen the economic standard of those families a self-employment program has been launched in the area by the Eco-culture Studies Unit.

It has agreed to provide a proper market for their products.
