New Travel Manual by Tourist Board

by Tharika Goonathilake

The Sri Lanka Tourist Board has launched an attractive and informative travel manual for use by sales staff of travel agencies and tour operators as part of its ongoing intensified promotion of Sri Lanka as an attractive holiday destination.

The manual is aimed at further supporting the Sri Lanka Tourist Board's attempts to increase awareness of the island's attractions worldwide, the Board's Director Marketing, Charmarie Maelge told 'Daily News Travel' yesterday.

The first set of manuals has already been released at the World Travel Market (WTM) London and at the China International Travel Market in, Kumming held last month.

"Some know Sri Lanka for its ancient grandeur or its colonial past, others for its more troubled recent past. But the idea behind the Sri Lanka Travel Manual is to help project a positive image in the minds of potential visitors. In short, what we are trying to do is project the message, Sri Lanka a 'Land Like No Other,''Maelge said.

The initial print order was for 3000 copies for distribution free of charge. The Manual comprising 10 main sections covers everything from Sri Lanka's special attractions to travellers' essentials, entertainment, events and festivals, cuisine, accommodation, shopping and travel agents.

Colourfully illustrated it opens with a special introductory preview on the country's history, climate, economy and urban culture. The Manual also features a section on Sri Lanka's packages for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) tourism with detailed information on the total package on offer.

"It's a comprehensive travel book that offers invaluable information to those who promote the destination as well as those who plan to visit the country and is a long felt need," Maelge said. A limited number of copies are also available at Rs 250 per copy at the Travel Information Centre of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.
