Good demand for tea There was strong demand for Western teas in the Ex-Estate catalogue as well as for Low Grown main grades at the Colombo Tea Auction this week. As buyers curtailed their activity during the election period, urgent orders from overseas resulted in very strong buying for select varieties of teas, John Keells Ltd said in a report. The absence of a sale after next week until New Year and a slight drop in product quality at future auctions due to rush crops would have stimulated demand. Overall, the averages for High Growns and Low Growns should reflect an improvement over last week., the report said. The Select Best Westerns advanced sharply to sell between Rs.215/- and Rs. 230/-. The main feature of the sale was the increased prices for a few of the best Medium Grown BOPs with Kenilworth at Rs. 280/-, Pettiagala at Rs. 251/- and Dotel Oya at Rs. 242/- being worthy of mention. The best CTC PF1 Hingalgoda reached Rs. 236/-. In the Low Grown sale Ivy Hills OPA once again equalled its existing record of Rs. 305/-. |
