Pakistan's Musharraf to visit China next week BEIJING, Dec 12 (AFP) - Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is scheduled to visit China from December 20 to 24, a Chinese foreign ministry official said Wednesday. The spokesman said no other details were available about the visit. On Tuesday, foreign ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue told a regular press briefing Musharraf would meet with Chinese leaders during a forthcoming trip, but said at the time she had no further information. In September, Pakistan's foreign office announced Musharraf, who took power in an October 1999 coup, was due to visit China imminently, but the trip was later postponed. China is one of Pakistan's closest allies. The neighboring countries cooperate closely on key international issues and have consulted each other about the US-led attacks against the Taliban in Afghanistan. In a telephone conversation in November, Musharraf and Chinese
President Jiang Zemin agreed more efforts should be made to find a
political solution to the Afghan issue following the fall of Kabul.
