Former Bangladesh PM, six ministers face corruption charges DHAKA, Dec 12 (AFP) - Bangladesh's anti-corruption bureau has filed corruption charges against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed and six of her senior former cabinet colleagues, police said Wednesday. Separate cases were filed late Tuesday in Dhaka police stations by officials of the government's anti-corruption bureau after the charges received required approval by Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, police said. Sheikh Hasina, who is on a private trip to Britain and the United States, is accused in two cases, including the purchase of Russian-made state-of-the-art MiG-29 jets. If convicted, she could face jail, a fine or both. A former home minister and five other ministers and defence and civil officials have been named in the cases. Zia and current Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury were themselves charged with graft when Sheikh Hasina's Awami League was in power. The cases against them have not been concluded. Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance won a landslide victory
over the arch-rival Awami League in October elections.
