Three CID teams to investigate

by Sarath Malalasekera

Three CID teams headed by a Senior SP and an ASP assigned to the investigation into the killings of ten Muslim youth in Talawinna, Katugastota on December 5, yesterday continued recording several eye witness versions of the tragedy.

Meanwhile they submitted a further report before the Teldeniya Magistrate C.V. Rajapaksa. The Magistrate allowed an application by the CID to forward the two 'Defender' Land Rovers alleged to have been used by the killers to the Government Analyst for forensic investigations. One suspect has been arrested, produced before the Magistrate and remanded pending the completion of the investigations. Investigators would like to talk to two drivers of the Petroleum Corporation.

Senior Deputy Government Analyst M.D.S. Gunatilleke and his team who visited the scene of the crime have already recorded their observations.

Kandy JMO Dr. Seneviratne who performed the autopsies on the dead youth extracted several bullets which will be forwarded for a ballistics report. Investigations revealed that the two 'Defender' vehicles belonged to the Petroleum Corporation and not to the STF.
