Nothing gained

Who has lost
And who has gained?
Victory is ours you say?
It is our day?

Nay! View! View! The heaped up dead
Sorrowing mothers, wives with children to be fed:

Blinded, deafened, bereft of limbs
Youth in activity crippled
Innocent ones in war sandwiched
Massacred, chopped up in revengeful deeds
A nation mourns its maimed and dead
Whither victory's triumph then?

Tie up! Tie up! those dogs of war
Stifle the Vulture's and Raven's caw
Let peace prevail
Surely 'tis not asking much?

To live and let live as in days gone by
Amity the watchword, peace our cry.
