Dankotuwa Porcelain Tableware Show 2001

Dankotuwa Porcelain Limited will hold its annual Tableware Show 2001 from December 14 to 16 at the Hotel Taj Samudra. The inauguration and awarding of prizes will take place on December 13. The Chief Guests will be Seiichiro Otsuko, Ambassador of Japan and Mrs. Otsuko, while popular TV star Mandira Bedi will be the Guest of Honour. The Tableware Show 2001 will display attractive table settings by finalists of the Tabletop Designer of The Year Competition organised by Dankotuwa Porcelain.

The show will not only showcase a selection of the finest porcelain dinnerware and table decor, but will also introduce visitors to the world of fine dining and porcelain decoration.

Tableware Show 2001 will display some of the latest designs being produced for the export market and new accessories such as candlestands, serviette rings, jewellery boxes, cake trays, cake servers and tea containers. On display will also be the new design ranges produced for the local market :Regenecy collection, Masterpieces Collection, Flamenco Collection, Laklain Collection and Sakura Collection.

Dankotuwa Porcelain Limited is a subsidiary of International Ceramics Inc. of Japan and currently exports products to over 25 countries. The company has international buyers such as Macy's Department Store of the USA, Ralph Lauren of USA, Aspen USA, House of Frazer UK, British Home Stores, UK and Walt Disney.

Lilan Weerasinghe, Senior Lecturer of the Ceylon Hotel School will conduct workshops on table settings for different occasions and also discuss how wine should be served and which foods different wines complement. The art of porcelain painting will be demonstrated by Mrs. Kanthi Jayasekera. At the inauguration, winning entries for table settings, and hand-painted porcelain will be selected by a panel of judges.

A raffle draw will also be held for guests and Mandira Bedi will pick the winner.

Mandira will be in attendance on all four days so visitors can meet her. Dinner, tea and coffee sets of the new designs will be available on sale at a special discount. The underlying theme of the event is that "a well laid out table makes a meal more memorable". Women's groups and schools are expected to attend the show. The show will be open from 1 am to 7 pm daily.
